Topic Solved Solved: Coding A Tab into a Post

Post by Emman on Fri Aug 03, 2012 10:19 pm

Hello. I recently stumbled across one of your posts concerning using tabs on the forum itself. However I'm more interested in using tabs within the post as part of a table. The table itself can be coded out of HTML, but i'm just wondering how I would be able to do that.

It's the same principle. You edit your templates and put the tabs in there. I bet you can use the same Javascript.
All you need to do next is style it with CSS. (I guess this sounds easier than it is)

Err let me see if I can find an example. I guess a little explanation is needed to help you understand. I need this because i'm developing a forum based RPG, and one of the systems calls for item management through a "Character Box". The box itself is a simple table that's formatted to be small and simple to use. But within the table are tabs to make it easier to navigate. It would be similar to this: Link The tabs themselves hold the information on the site and allow users to place tables in side them. But I know forumotion does not currently support the tab tags (that I know of), So I was wondering if I could emulate that effect with tables and div tags? I know I would still have to use the script, but if there is a way to do this please let me know.

I'm not sure if this is possible in the posts but let me play with it and see what I can do.

If you have enabled HTML in posts is this a easy one (just follow the tutorial that exit on this forum) , but if not, then you need to create tables with BBCode in the post and use a JavaScript that targets every single post.

Soo.. which version are you running, and have you enabled HTML in posts?

If it's used multiple times on the same page, then the jQuery script wouldn't work, because it would need to run in a loop then.

But if it's only used one time on one page, then by placing the jQuery so it's only visible in post, the CSS in the stylesheet, and the HTML in post, then it should work.

I'm thinking of using the Jquery on the entire site as well as the CSS and then use the HTML code in the actual posts. Since the Jquery would be active over the entire site anywhere that the div tags would appear would be affected by it right? And yes I have HTML active in posts.

Then should the tutorial Maki wrote work, if you only want to display one of these tab menus on the pages.

If you need to display multiple tab menus on the pages, then you have to create a loop around the jQuery and give the wrapper HTML tag a class or like so.
